Quick notes

2 min read
I know I don't post journals here very often. That's partly because I have an actual LiveJournal (same username as here); any musings, ramblings, etc. I deem worth of sharing tend to go there. Also, my presence here, there, and any other social media or public forum(s) belies the fact that... well, I'm not really that social at all. And right now, I'm not exactly in the best position to be posting a "big" entry (or uploading any new pics), so just a couple quick notes:

  • During 2014 Patty Larceny was spotted at two conventions (this possibly being of interest to anyone coming from :iconvile-hq:). I do have a couple photos from these that will upload when I can.
  • I have made more than just cosplay accessories for myself and a friend. In other words, the "adventures in sculpting" folder will have more stuff soon.
  • If you must know, I do like a certain now-controversial Disney movie, but I hate that it became such a big deal and thus became controversial. For what it's worth to either side, the movie in question has not dethroned "Wreck-It Ralph" as my favorite of Disney's more recent offerings.
  • Only even-close-to-guaranteed new costume for this year is a feminized, lolita version of Thor (not following :devkhriztian:'s or anyone else on here's design(s) but one the friend who is making the costume came up with herself). Whether or not any further new costumes happen this year, I will continue to wear "old" ones (including Patty, Jubileena, and Princess Peach).

That's it for now.

You've probably noticed/heard of maryryanbogard2-0. Yes, that's still me. As explained on that account's profile page, I finally got fed up with what the stupid "more like this" feature was claiming to be "similar" to several of my cosplay pics, especially now that they show large-ish thumbnails next to the pics themselves rather than providing a text link one could click on or not. Since I can't "favorite" my own stuff and the thing allegedly goes by "favorites", I made that account so as to put more relevant and less offensive/inappropriate stuff together with my cosplay pics (also hoping that in the process I've helped other cosplayers/photographers in the same/similar situation). I also took advantage of that to create a sister group for :iconvile-hq: as that is actually supposed to be about the villains of the "Carmen Sandiego" franchise rather than fanclub for the franchise as a whole (one that I actually plan to give away to any takers as my heart is of course with the bad guys in this case, thus won't be linking it here).

Yes, I have some other cosplay pics from between now and 2007 I should probably upload here. But lest anyone forget, I run (heck, started) :iconvile-hq:, so pics of the relevant costume for that group take precedence. And yes, the costume is indeed more than just the necklace now, and had a "soft" debut at Anime Mid-Atlantic in June and a full debut at Otakon two weekends ago. Unlike PBS, I wasn't just cruelly teasing (fellow "Carmen" fans know what I'm talking about); I actually followed through. For the record, if you missed me at both aforementioned events, I'm currently, tentatively planning to bring the Patty costume to Dragon*Con also, though I'm not sure exactly when I'll be wearing her with all the other costumes (including Jubileena Bing-Bing, my other "high priority" costume for this year) I plan to bring.

Though, really, I've been posting things on Facebook and LiveJournal more these days (and if you've been reading my LJ, you've probably gathered that I'm a bit stressed right now no thanks to there being so many conventions almost in a row). But hey, now I can really introduce myself to the "Carmen Sandiego" community/be more active therein (well, when everything calms down for me, at least- and provided they don't mind a certain OTP of mine).

Yeah, I know- start a group (:iconvile-hq:) and disappear why don't I? I'm sorry, I'll do my best not to let that happen again. FYI, I started the group in question mainly so fans of Carmen Sandiego and her minions had a place regardless of their pairing preferences (since the closest thing to a group dedicated to the franchise, as of before I started mine, was :iconwhereintheworld: and not all Carmen fans ship that). Though I now see what people in charge of other groups were saying when they complained about how user-unfriendly the group admin interface is.

As far as cosplay-related things, right now Jubileena Bing-Bing from "Wreck-It Ralph" has top priority because I intend to wear her to the DC Cherry Blossom festival in a couple weeks, and to another event soon after. However, I've told my regular seamstress (a.k.a. my roommate) that after Jubileena I want my next new costume to be Patty Larceny so I can stop "teasing" and actually wear it/get photos, so I should have that costume anywhere between Memorial Day weekend (Balticon) and mid-August (Otakon).

And yes, I still plan to upload some more cosplay photos here, I just need to pick some "favorites" (since I don't necessarily want to put all of them here). Also, I will try to get pictures of my ceramic and Sculpey work.

Gah, I haven't updated this in forever. Yet have provided ample evidence I'm still here. Well, a few things:

  • I will try to have at least one photo each of all the costumes I've worn/will wear since the last time I actually uploaded anything here. However, I also plan to have a website of my own up at some point, and all my cosplay and convention photos will end up there regardless of whether or not I put them here and/or on Cosplay.com. And of course I'll post the link when it's available. In the meantime, I have been trying to find and fave any pics on here other people have taken/uploaded of myself and/or friends without an account here.
  • My ramblings, musings, etc. are on my LiveJournal, which is at maryryanbogard.livejournal.com…
  • Yes, I've been commissioning art and will continue to do so as finances permit. Drawing's just not really my thing. I also don't turn around and upload what I commission into my own gallery- all commissions get faved and put into a special folder instead. If the pairings you see there weird you out, I explained them in the aforementioned LJ (two of them here and the other one here if you want to be specific). I may also commission the occasional plushie.
  • I do in fact do some sculpting with both earthenware and polymer clay. I will try to post pictures of some of those projects, too. However, let it be known that I don't and won't take commissions on those.
  • I also have several fanfic projects, but I don't think I'll be posting any of those here save maybe a chosen few. There are other sites better suited to that, and I'm also looking at getting LJ accounts for the biggest projects.

Cosplay plans as of right now are as follows: there are only two yet-to-exist costumes that I really care that much about (as in, if they end up being my only new costumes next year, that would be fine). One is Patty Larceny from the PBS game show version of "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?", which has already had four false starts. The other is a "Sugar Rush" racer from "Wreck-it Ralph", though I haven't yet decided which one (though it won't be Taffyta or Vanellope since those parts are taken- in fact two friends have claimed Vanellope- but it will definitely be one of the remaining girls, likely either Jubileena, Adorabeezle, or Candlehead). Peach's Gamecube-era tennis/golf dress was previously one of the two, but I've decided to let the "Sugar Rush" costume take its place, priority-wise. Not to say there won't necessarily be other new costumes in the coming year (including some 50-90% finished costumes otherwise meant for this year- a couple of which were even actually worn the closer they fell to the 90% side- seeing completion), but like I said those are the ones I care most about. Patty will hopefully, finally debut at Anime Mid-Atlantic, Otakon at the latest, while the "Sugar Rush" costume may very well debut at Katsucon if not Otakon (yeah, even if I do end up going for more than a day my Otakon cosplay plate is pretty full already). In the meantime, whether I end up wearing it to Katsucon or not a Christmas version of Sally from "Nightmare before Christmas" is being finished up for a "Kingdom Hearts- Christmas Town" themed photoshoot with some friends at the Gaylord National (Katsucon's venue) while they still have their holiday decorations up. I will say now that due to Anime USA being so [dang] close to Dragon*Con next year, I will only wear costumes that already exist at that point (regardless of how long they've existed) there rather than have any new ones specifically for it.

Well, that's all for now.
